Today we begin a multi-week series on one of the most hotly contested passages in the Bible: 1 Timothy 2:8-15. We will tackle the following questions:
- Why did God create two genders if we are one in Christ?
- Why is this truth necessary now?
- Why do some view this as a “difficult” passage?
- How do we approach “difficult” passages?
- What was Paul’s intent?
- How are men and women the same? And different?

Summary Statement:
Men and women have equal value before God, and God has given them unique natures, roles, and responsibilities within the home and church. Leadership roles are reserved for men, as demonstrated in both OT & NT patterns and teaching. All believing women and men are charged with a wide range of good works outlined in scripture and suited to God’s design for gender strengths. This structure is prescribed for the household of God. While these gender role differences are anecdotally observed in secular contexts, scriptural gender roles are not enforced there. Scripture opposes any view that undermines the dignity of either men or women.
